Mark Silverthorn has had a remarkable career in both the Canadian debt collection and debt relief industries. He initially worked 12 years as a collection lawyer for some of the largest collection agencies operating in Canada.
This experience provided him with a unique insider's perspective on not only the legal but also the practical obstacles facing creditors and collection agencies when it comes to collecting unpaid accounts.

After he had an epiphany, Mark stopped doing collection work and his law practice focused on assisting consumers receiving collection calls.
Mark subsequently worked another dozen years as a lawyer representing debt-challenged consumers. During this period he personally negotiated a large number of one-time lump sum settlements on behalf of his clients, in many instances on very favourable terms.
In 2011 he wrote a book titled The Wolf At The Door: What To Do When Collection Agencies Come Calling, published by McClelland & Stewart. He has shared his insights on the collection industry on television programs including CBC National News, Global National News, as well as CBC's Marketplace. He was a regular guest on CFRB's The Peter Silverman Show.
Mark retired from the practice of law in 2019. He currently operates Debt Coach Silverthorn, a firm that provides practical non-legal advice to consumers facing debt challenges. Debt Coach Silverthorn also has its own YouTube channel.
